Goldie Avanell “Nell” Hearn Aycock – Obituary

Mrs. Goldie Avanell “Nell” Hearn Aycock, 84, went home to be with her Lord and reunited with her husband Saturday, October 6, 2012. A native of Corinth, she had been a resident of the Sheffield area since 1949 where she met and married Chief Warren H. Aycock. They were married for 60 years. Nell was a member of First Baptist Church of Sheffield since moving to Sheffield. She taught the Two years olds for 12 years with her friend Grace Branscome. Nell loved to cook for her family and work in her flower garden, and doing cross stitching and crocheting. The center of our home was around mama’s kitchen table.

She is survived by her daughter, Rita Gail Aycock Stout; son-in-law, Bud, of Florence; son, Kenny Aycock; daughter-in-law, Jane of Muscles Shoals; step son, Doug Aycock; daughter-in-law, Pat of Sheffield; grandson, Coy A. Stout II (Jeff Falk) of Moss Beach, CA; granddaughter, Laura Nell Stout Sneed (Drew) of Muscle Shoals; grandson, Zachary Aycock of Tuscumbia; two great-grandchildren that know her as Old Nanny, Samuel and Emma Klaire Sneed; granddaughter, Jane Aycock Lamb (Patrick) of Birmingham, AL; granddaughter, Carla Aycock Stanfield (Todd) of Jackson, TN; granddaughter, Breanne Townsend of Muscle Shoals; four great-grandchildren, Lucas, Spencer, Margee, and Grraham that know her as Grandma Nell; sister, Kathleen Kiser of Selmer, TN and sister-in-law, Janice Hearn of Florence; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be family members. Her homecoming service will be held at First Baptist Church Sheffield. Visitation will be from 1:30pm till 3:00pm at First Baptist Church of Sheffield. Pastor Chad Holder will be officiating the service beginning at 3:00pm with the eulogy given by her grandson, Coy A. Stout II. Following the service, burial will be at Colbert Memorial Gardens.

The family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 716 Sheffield, AL 35660. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Mitchell Hollingsworth for providing a place for us to care for our mother; to Brian Scheri on how he runs the facility with such care and respect for his residents; to the caring nursing staff on station 5; to Dr. Joshua Vacik for the years he cared for our dear mother; and to Southern Care Hospice.
