Vance E. Burns – Obituary

Vance E. Burns, Husband, Father, Grandfather and decorated US Army veteran passed away on July 18, 2018 due to complications from surgery. He was 79 years of age, born Vance Edward Burns, Nov 16, 1938, the youngest son of B.J. and Pauline Burns formerly of Grove Oak, Alabama. Vance graduated from Geraldine High and joined the US Army serving his country with distinction for 20 years, retiring as a Sergeant First Class/First Sergent of his battalion. After being honorably discharged, Vance was a small businessman in Geraldine and a popular host and master of ceremonies for events at Mountain Lakes Resort, and a Deputy Sheriff of Marshall County. He was respected and admired for his outgoing and friendly demeanor and always provided a helping hand to those in need.

Vance is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joye Loretta (Gabbert) Burns of Guntersville, daughters Trecia J. Smith (Randy, Guntersville, AL) and Monica J. Bearden (Grant, AL), and sons Jerry D. Burns (Robin, Panama City, FL) and James Clark Burns (Kathy, Birmingham, AL). He was especially adored and loved by his 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He will be sorely missed.

Visitation and services will be performed at Carr Funeral Home, 1960 O’Brig Ave, Guntersville, AL on Sunday July 22, 2018 at 11am. Interment services will be held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 17663 AL-227, Geraldine, Alabama immediately following the funeral.
