Betty Ruth Blankenship – Obituary

Betty Ruth Blankenship, age 85, went to be with the Lord on July 15, 2018. She was born on October 28, 1932, in Morgan County to Lucy and Ermer Walker. She was one of five siblings.

Betty was a graduate of Priceville High School. In June of 1949 she married Hillman H. Blankenship (D: 1994). Soon after marrying, they ventured to northern Indiana, where they ended up settling for a number of years and raised their three children.

They returned to their southern roots in the year of 1990 and built their dream home to spend their golden years together.

Betty lived the last two years of her life at Brookdale Hampton Cove assisted living which participates in the Clare Bridge program which specializes in Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care. Staff at Brookdale became her friends and second family. At Brookdale she was given great care and treated with dignity which was a great source of comfort and support during her struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hillman Blankenship; infant son, Timothy Blankenship; brother James Walker; sisters, Evelyn Kirby (Troy), Peggy Schrimsher (Louie).

She is survived by her three children, daughters, Toni Amundson (Anthony), Judi Lynch (Scott) and son, Dan Blankenship (Tina); four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Wednesday July 18, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home with Pastor David Tubbs officiating. Burial will be in Shoal Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
