John Houston Mullins – Obituary

Mr. John Houston Mullins, age 95 of Sparta, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018, at his residence.

Mr. Mullins was born August 27, 1922, in Alpine, Tennessee of Overton County to the late Lafayette Ridley & Ida Deane McDonald Mullins. He was a retired dairy farmer and proudly served his nation in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr.

Mullins’ passion in life was his family, the importance of their heritage and where they came from. He was an admirer and restorer of antique cars, making many trips with his close group of antique car friends. An avid traveler, Mr. Mullins had visited every state except Alaska, traveling and camping the entire lower 48 alongside his wife. They were frequent visitors of the Cheyenne Rodeo, where he had a reserved camping spot waiting on them. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by brothers Ray Mullins, Howard Mullins, Cecil Mullins; sisters Florence York and Marie Copeland.

Surviving family include his wife of 70 years Enzena McCulley Mullins of Sparta. His three daughters: Joanne (Tony) Pogue of Columbia, TN, Janette Myers of Gallatin and Betty (Jim) Thurman of Tullahoma; one son: John (Brenda) Mullins of Cookeville, TN; granddaughter: Christie Pogue of Franklin and his grandson Matt (Allison) Thurman of Fayetteville, TN.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday, July 17, 2018, from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 -8:00 pm at Hunter Funeral Home. Thomas McCulley will officiate.

Williams Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
