John Lewis Thomas – Obituary

Mr. John Lewis Thomas, son of the late Flavin and Christina Thomas of Cherokee. John was born October 4, 1938. John was united in matrimony to Mae (Jackson) Thomas August 6, 1955. Mae preceded John in death in August of 2006.

John was a member of the Church of Christ. He served as a deacon, teacher, and minister for many years. John was a member of Boilermaker Local 455 and a TVA retiree.

John loved to spend time with his family and he loved his Boxer, Judy.

John passed away on July 13, 2018 at Morningside in Sheffield after a brief battle with heart disease.

John requested a graveside service for his family, friends, and loved ones at Barton Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, 2018. Officiating will be Drew Malone.

John lives on through the life of his children, Deb Thomas of Muscle Shoals, John Jeffrey (Mary Lou) Thomas of Cherokee, and Sherry (Jimmy) Mars of Gulfport, MS; grandchildren, Montana (Baby Girl) Thomas, Drew (Taylor) Malone, Ashley (Zach) Tubbs all of Cherokee, Brandi and Chris Mars of Gulfport, MS; great-grandchildren, Paisley Tubbs and Julia Malone of Cherokee, a host of devoted friends, nieces, nephews, and beloved sister, Lugene Schisler.

Pallbearers: Dwight Reid, Johnny Thompson, Clay Waddell, Zach Tubbs, Parker Harrell, and Chris Mars.

Honorary Pallbearers: Earl Moore, Ricky Moore, Dr. Ronald McCoy, Dr. Kenneth Rose, and Dr. Loren McCoy.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to wonderful caregivers Nettie Drummond and Francis Jackson.

In lieu of flowers, make donations to the American Heart Association.
