Marvin Rex Rankin, Jr. – Obituary

Marvin Rex Rankin, Jr. died peacefully at his home on July 12, 2018. He was born in Decatur on September 12, 1925. In high school he was one of “Shorty’s Boys” and received a football scholarship to play for Georgia Tech. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and upon his discharge completed his college education at the University of Alabama. Married in the summer of 1950, he returned to Decatur and entered the insurance business with his father. He was a member of several social organizations in the city; he was a proud supporter and champion of Decatur and Morgan County. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jean Link Rankin; his brother, Charles; three sons, Rex, III, Link, and Robert; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Jim. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at 11:00 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church. A visitation service will begin one hour prior at the church. Burial will be in Decatur City Cemetery. Roselawn Funeral Home has the honor of assisting the family.
