Phillip Leon Davis – Obituary

Phillip Leon Davis, 84, died Tuesday night, July 10, 2018 at North Miss. Medical Center after a period of declining health. He was born in Plantersville to the late Phillip Philander Davis and Lula Mae Moore Davis on January 8, 1934. Leon attended Plantersville School and graduated from High School there in l952. Leon attended Itawamba Junior College and married his high school sweetheart, Merlene Whitehead Davis on Sept. 5, l952. Merlene died on May 20, 2005. He joined the U. S. Army and served in Germany in the post Korean War era. Leon spent many years employed at Long’s Laundry in Tupelo and retired after more than 20 years as an Office Manager for Insulation Sales in Tupelo. Leon loved his farm, land, and cattle, along with tending his yard. He proudly supported his boys with their hobby, drag racing. He enjoyed being “Granddaddy” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Leon was a longtime active and faithful member of Centerhill Baptist Church near Plantersville, where he was a deacon. Leon enjoyed a simple, but significant life centered around God’s creation and his family, church and friends.

Visitation will be from 5 PM-8PM today (Thurs. 7/12/18) and from Noon-Service time on Friday. A service celebrating his life, with military honors, will be held at 2 PM Friday, July 13, 2018 with Bro. Bobby Joe Poss officiating. All services will be held at Holland Funeral Directors Tupelo Chapel, which is honored to be serving their special friends. Burial will follow in the Plantersville Cemetery.
Leon leaves his two sons, Mike Davis and wife, Sheila and Douglas Davis and his wife, Jane of Tupelo; 4 grandchildren, Kimberly Sawicki (Eddie), Eric Davis, Drew Davis(Rachel) all of Tupelo and Lindsay Davis of Southaven, MS. 3 great grandchildren, Max Sawicki, Zoebelle Sawicki and Eleanor Jane Davis. His only brother, Earnest Davis and his wife, Dorothy of Tupelo and his extended in laws on the Whitehead family side. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Merlene and a nephew, William “Pete” Davis.
Pallbearers will be Larry, Dennis, Joey and Adam Whitehead, Mac Reedy, Drew Davis, Billy Davis, Eddie Sawicki and Fred Lee.
