TUPELO, MS – Law Enforcement and Emergency Services vehicles are not the only vehicles working on the road shoulders and highways. Parkway mowers and permitted tow companies also provide valuable services along the roadway; and just like emergency vehicles, highway maintenance and tow trucks also fall under the state’s MOVE OVER laws.

Summertime is peak mowing season and that means that tractors towing large mowers and their support vehicles will be working along the roadway. In an effort to keep the public and our employee’s safe, Chief of Maintenance Barry Boyd asks that drivers slow and move over when passing tractors and maintenance crews.

The same goes for tow vehicles that are providing assistance to Parkway visitors. Assistant Chief Ranger Calvin

Chief Ranger Sarah Davis

Farmer reminds drivers to slow down and use due caution when passing them. “These tow services are assisting visitors in need, and rely on your awareness to provide a safe zone where they are working.”

Chief Ranger Sarah Davis advises, “Move over laws have applied to highway maintenance vehicles and tow service vehicles for years.” Davis further advises that Rangers will be targeting motorists who do not slow down around the Parkway’s mower crews or when passing tow trucks. “If a vehicle is displaying flashing lights, whether the lights are red, blue, white, or yellow, the public is required to slow down and give the vehicle as much space as safely possible” says Davis.
