Virginia Carnes Thomas – Obituary

Virginia Carnes Thomas, age 84, of Bessemer, AL passed away on July 7, 2018.

Virginia was born on June 5, 1934 to the late James and Ethel McDonald. Virginia loved her church, she was a former member of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church where she participated in the choir, women’s missionary union and taught Sunday school class. She later was a member of Pleasant Hills Methodist Church in Bessemer, Alabama. She enjoyed giving back to her church and community by working in the food bank. For enjoyment, Virginia loved to work in her yard, tend her garden, shop, spend time with her grandchildren, and she was a huge fan of Alabama football. Her greatest love was her family.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Ann Jewell; grandson, John “Chuck” (Regina) Jewell; granddaughter, Jenny Shaw; great granddaughters, Isabella Jewell, Kaylee Osborne and Olivia Shaw; great grandson, Devin (Hannah) Lawwell and great great grandson, Cooper Lawwell.

The family will visit with friends on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 10:00 am at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 am at Polk Memorial Gardens with Alan Head officiating.

Pallbearers are: John “Charles” Jewell, Jackie Hudson, Mike Hudson and Allen Nicholson. Honorary pallbearers are: Charles Jager, Jim Ed Mulkin, Bobby Cooper, Jerry Lushington, Charles Tisher, Betty Tisher and Jo Hudson.
