Kathleen ‘Kat’ Qualls – Obituary

By  | July 9, 2018 | Filed under: Laughlin Service Funeral Home, Obituaries

Mrs. Kathleen ‘Kat’ Qualls died peacefully at her residence on 6 July 2018 in Huntsville, AL at the age of 91. Kat is survived by her daughter, Hope Sprinkle and her husband, Harold; son, Daryle Qualls and his wife, Sue; grandchildren, Teaghan and Tara; and step granddaughter, Missy.

Kat was born in Waterloo Alabama to Dwelling and Cassie Higgins, and grew up in Kelso, Tennessee. After a two week courtship she married Johnny Qualls. They were happily married, through thick and thin, staying together for 69 years. Kat was an active and dedicated member of Huntsville Park Baptist Church for many years until driving was no longer an option.

What to remember about Kat… she worked many places over the years, notably taking pride in her position with Mallory Electronics as a housekeeper. She often said that “everyone deserved to work in a clean place”, and took special pride knowing she personally kept it that way.  Kat was an accomplished dancer.  She was quick to show off her skill doing the Charleston or Twist to anyone who would watch. This was no small feat even up to the age of 91.  Kat was a dyed-in-the-wool democrat (VERY PROUD SOUTHERN DEMOCRAT) who staunchly voted for Obama…twice. Who by the way, whenever we discussed politics, would not forget to tell me how she voted.

Most importantly, we remember Kat as one who practiced “we get what we give for this life”. And she was a giver, without reservation, her time and effort to whomever or whatever was at hand. Whether visiting shut-ins, donating to charity, taking food to others, cleaning up after someone, chatting up a stranger passing by, or just smiling at you… she gave. Her giving is what we’ll remember, and am betting Jesus will too.

Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 11 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, 2320 Bob Wallace Ave., Huntsville. The funeral will follow in the chapel with Brother Mylon Metcalf officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kat’s farewell.

The family would like to express special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Regency these past years, and, Hospice of North Alabama this last week
