James “Jamie” Garlen Ward – Obituary

James “Jamie” Garlen Ward, 61, of Talladega, entered into rest on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Princeton Hospital in Birmingham.

Mr. Ward was born on December 12, 1956, in Houston, Texas. Jamie was born with cerebral palsy, and in spite of the challenges that he faced, he was always happy and had a smile.  He had a loving heart toward everyone, especially the women and would ask them to marry him.  There was nothing Jamie loved more than listening to country music.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 12pm-2pm at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where services will be held at 2pm. Brother Gary Wakefield will officiate. Burial will follow in Sardis No. 1 Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jamie is survived by his father, Billie “BG” G. Ward; sisters, Velma Ann Nelms, Cindy Ward Moore and her husband Steve; nephew, Daniel H. Helms and his wife April; niece Jessica Moore, great nephew, Harrison Evans; special friends, D.J. McCurdy, Wilma Knight, and a host of cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Velma Walling Ward, and grandmother, Mariah Ward.
