Lucy Potts – Obituary

Lucy Potts, age 82, of Columbia, Tennessee passed away on July 7, 2018 at NHC Columbia.

Lucy was born on January 22, 1936 in Marshall County, TN to the late Elmo and Mattie Ingram Derryberry. Lucy was a loving, caring and thoughtful woman. She dedicated much of her life to taking care of others. She was a nurturing caretaker, from rocking the bed babies in the Pleasant Heights Baptist Church Nursery to opening her home to many friends, family and those in need. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was even a mother to many that weren’t her own children. Included in her many talents, she was an excellent cook, seamstress and gardener. Lucy was a dedicated hard worker; she worked for Coca-Cola for 18 years in the office, retired from Dr. Fielder’s office, where she worked as a secretary for many years. After her retirement she returned to work at Lewisburg Garden Center where she was co-owner with her husband. She was a long time member of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church where she was a participant in the Grace Sunday school class. She can be remembered as a dedicated, loving woman to everyone and most of all, her Lord.

Lucy is survived by her daughters, Yolanda (Terry) Dial, of Columbia and Yvonne (Alex) Cortner of Murfreesboro; son, Bryan (Amy) Potts of Lewisburg, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren (with two more on the way); sister in law, Pearl Boshers; brother in law, Darrell (Melissa) Potts; sister in law, Joyce Potts and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by: her husband Luther Potts, her sister, Joanne Brewer and brother, Gerald Wade Derryberry.

The family will visit with friends on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Pleasant Heights Baptist Church. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 11:00 am at Pleasant Heights Baptist Church with Bob Vassar, Steve Murphree and John Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are grandsons: Dane Hargrove, Callaway Dial, Richard Jones, Russell Dial, Chase Cortner and Chad Cortner. Honorary pallbearers are Mr. and Mrs. Homer Prince, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tisher and members of her Pleasant Heights Baptist Church Grace Sunday school class.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Lucy’s memory to either the American Cancer Society or to Alzheimers research.
