Athens police report four injured in accident on July 4

ATHENS-On Wednesday, July 4, at 9:18 p.m., Athens Fire and Rescue responded to a vehicle collision/fire call on Stanford Street. Chief Bryan Thornton said a vehicle with four people ran through a yard and hit two other vehicles. The four people in the car sustained burn injuries, and the vehicle was a total loss.
Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said the initial investigation indicated the accident is related to fireworks, however, investigators have not been able to talk to everyone involved.
“At this time, we have no further information we can release,” Johnson said.
Thornton said the four who sustained injuries are receiving treatment at UAB Hospital.
