LIMESTONE COUNTY-On Wednesday, July 4 the Limestone County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement on the near drowning of an 8-year old boy in a residential swimming pool:

“Limestone County 911 received a report of a possible drowning in the community pool at Legacy Grove subdivision around 6:00 PM today. An 8-year old boy was spotted floating at the pool by a quick-thinking married couple also at the pool. The boy was wearing a mask and snorkel. The husband initially told his wife, a hospital ER nurse, that the boy looked like he was playing the “dead mans game” floating without moving, but when the top of the snorkel went under they knew something was wrong.

The couple pulled the boy from the pool, while others on scene (not related to the boy) called 911. The nurse began CPR and continued the process until being relieved by responding EMTs. The boy was transported to Huntsville Hospital via helicopter after medical personnel got a pulse. His condition is unknown at this time.

It is critical that parents/caretakers pay attention to their children, especially in swimming areas. In today’s incident, it was alert and fast-acting bystanders who (hopefully) saved this child’s life.”
