Allen Spencer McCurdy – Obituary

Allen Spencer McCurdy, 75, died Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Sanctuary Hospice House.  He was born in Greenwood on December 16, 1942, to Jessie Elbert and Blanche Chassaniol McCurdy. In 1961, he graduated from Greenwood High School and served in the United States Navy from September 6, 1961 until August 31, 1967. While in the U. S. Navy, he served aboard the USS Clamagore (SS 343) and the USS Seawolf (SSN 575).  After his service, he attended Mississippi State University and received his Bachelors of Science in Nuclear Engineering. On August 21, 1971, he married Diane McCurdy and together they have two sons and four beloved grandchildren. Allen worked for Entergy Operations Inc. for 28 years and was a founding engineer for Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Station until his retirement in 1999. Following his retirement, he started A&D Consulting for 12 years until his retirement in 2012. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed his daily walks with his dog, Max and joining his “lunch bunch buddies” weekly.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Diane McCurdy of Mooreville; two sons, Richard Allen McCurdy and his wife Elizabeth of Panama City, Florida, and Mark Spencer McCurdy and his wife Tara of Mathiston; four grandchildren, Caleb McCurdy of Panama City, Florida, Mason McCurdy of Mathiston, Logan McCurdy of Mathiston, and Ethan McCurdy of Panama City, Florida; sister Claire Downing and her husband Jim of Salome, Arizona; two brothers, Robert McCurdy and his wife Nancy of Cruger, and Lloyd McCurdy and his wife Merle of Collierville, Tennessee; and one sister-in-law Janice McCurdy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Steve McCurdy.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until service time Sunday, July 1, 2018, at W. E. Pegues Tupelo.

Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Jefferson Street Chapel with Rev. Jay Stanley officiating. Graveside services will be 4:30 p.m. in Beth-Eden Cemetery in Louisville with Dr. Wade Stevens officiating.

Pallbearers will be Blake McCurdy, Will Downing, Chris McCurdy, Kevin McCurdy, Rob McCurdy, and Eddie McCurdy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Smith, Paul Robinson and Jeff O’Quinn.

The service will be live streamed and recorded for those who may not be able to attend at www.peguesfuneralhome.com.
