Merlene W. Brown – Obituary

Merlene W. Brown, 89, of Haleyville, entered into rest on June 13, 2018 at her home.

Merlene was born on August 16, 1928, in Houston, Alabama. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church No. 2 for 42 years, where she was the oldest member and was actively involved in the Women’s Missionary Union.  Merlene graduated from Winston County High School in 1948.  She worked for Miles Laboratory in Elkhart, Indiana for 20 years as a pharmaceutical assistance.  She enjoyed cooking and gardening.  Merlene also loved playing with her grandchildren and spending time with her family.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 from 12pm-2pm at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church No. 2, Double Springs where services will be held at 2pm. Brother David Miller and Brother Jeff Wiggins will officiate.  Burial will follow in Winston Memorial Cemetery.

Merlene is survived by her son, James Donald Brown and wife Karen; daughter, Katrina Sue Godsey; and brother, Larry D. Williams and wife Janice. She was “Nana” to 4 grandchildren, Eric (Andrea) Godsey, Toni (Jacob) Payne, Christina Harbison, Nicholas Harbison; 6 great grandchildren, Santiago Vaqueiro, Kobe Payne, Kaden Brown, Kayla Brown, Ty Payne, Nathaniel Harbison; and honorary grandchildren, Brother Jeff Wiggins and family; and nurse, Carol Holt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Dalton Brown; father, Nolin Williams; mother, Marietta Williams; and grandson, Jeremiah Brown.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church WMU in memory of Merlene Brown or Southern Care New Beacon Hospice.
