Robert Lee Gates Jr.
Mr. Gates passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 12, 2018, at the Bolivar General Hospital following a lengthy illness.

A native and life-long resident of Hardeman County, Mr. Gates was the son of the late Robert E. and Mae Rixie Gates. He had worked at Jervis/Harmon and was a farmer, also. He had taught Sunday school at Porter’s Creek Baptist Church, where is was a member. Additionally, he was a Mason.

In his leisure time, Robert Lee enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on tractors and his cows. He loved being with family and his God during his daily Bible readings.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Gates, whom he married on Thursday, April 16, 1992; three daughters, Melinda Gates of Middleton, Becky Doles of Nashville and Robin Crowe of Bethel Springs; two sons, Tyler Gates of Middleton and Dale Harris (Judy) of Jackson; sister, Mildred Bates of Selmer; two brothers, Clarence Gates (Sandra) of Henderson and Eugene Gates (Maybelle) of Corinth, MS; seven grandchildren, Dillon, Sabrina, Caleb, Jennifer, April, Jessica and Mark; seven great-grandchildren; and an aunt, Bonnie Frazier (Mike) of Walnut, MS.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gates was preceded in death by a sister, Aliene Jacobs; a brother, Jewell Gates; and five additional brothers and sisters who passed away in infancy.
