Jay Stevens passed away in his home, surrounded by loved ones, on June 5th, 2018, after a 17-month battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He was 63 years old.

Jay was born May 24, 1955, in Willits, California. He was the second born of 5 children and the only boy amongst a houseful of girls.

He joined the United States Marine Corps when he was 17, where he was a helicopter crew chief. It was through the relationships he made in the Marines, that he met his wife.

Jay met and married the love of his life, Tammy Shook, in 1976 and began a family a few short years later.

Jay found religion later in life and launched head first into studying all that there was to know about the Bible and God. He became the song leader at his church. Although he never found a church home upon moving to Alabama, he remained steadfast in his love and learning of God.

Jay was a fun-loving, goofy man who was loved by all who met him. He was a passionate man who had a love for life and knowledge. He was a loving and kind man who, although he had a tough exterior, had the biggest heart.

Jay is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Tammy Stevens; his two daughters, Amber Blount (Ryan) and Megan Farris (Dennis); and his son, Eric Stevens (Susan), as well as his 10 grandchildren, Tyler Stevens, Kayleigh Loyd, Bradley Farris, Wesley Farris, Abigail Blount, Cyrus Farris, Devlin Farris, Jacob Blount, Eli Farris, and Liberty Farris and his 4 sisters, Nim Stevens, Niki Nome (Paul), Johni Hagen (Bob), and Michiko Daigneault. He is preceded in death by his father James Stevens and his mother Wadena “Nootie” Daigneault.

It was Jay’s wish to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at Berryhill Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL, on Saturday, June 9th, 2018. Visitation from 12:00-1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. John Burgess officiating. All who would like to pay their respects are welcome.
