2018 Timmy Horton High School Anglers Challenge

SHEFFIELD-On Saturday, June 2 the Timmy Horton High School Anglers Challenge fishing tournament was held on Picwick Lake in Sheffield.

Walker Brown of Loretto, Tennessee, won the senior division of the Timmy Horton High School Bass Anglers Challenge fishing tournament with a five-bass, 20.61 pounds catch. Gabe Wallace of Russellville Anglers finished second with 17.17 pounds and Daniel Meadows of Mortimer-Jordan Anglers was third with 14.25 pounds. Rounding out the Top 5 were Hunter Estis and Tyler Crowell, both of Muscle Shoals Bass Fishing. Stephen Peters of Colbert County Anglers caught the largest bass in the senior division, a 6.63 pounds largemouth. The senior division is for anglers in grades 10-12.

Joshua Morgan of Phil Campbell Anglers won the junior division with a five-bass, 14.43 pounds catch Sam Hatcher of Muscle Shoals Bass Fishing, finished second with 11.90 pounds. Ethan Tedder of Muscle Shoals Bass Fishing , finished third with 11.36 pounds. Rounding out the Top 5 were J.O. Morgan of Phil Campbell Anglers  and Levi Sharp of L.A. Anglers. Sharp caught the largest bass in the junior division, a 6.16 pounds largemouth. The junior division is for anglers in grades 7-9.

The student anglers fished with adult volunteers, who were not allowed to fish.

The top five anglers in each division won scholarships to the college, university of technical school of their choice. In addition, top three anglers in the senior division from Colbert, Lauderdale, Franklin or Lawrence counties won scholarships to Northwest-Shoals Community College in Muscle Shoals.

The tournament, that was based out of Riverfront Park in Sheffield, attracted anglers from four states. It was organized by Colbert County Tourism and Convention Bureau. Tim Horton, a professional anglers and outdoors television personality from Muscle Shoals – for whom the tournament is named – was the emcee. Highlights from the tournament will be televised nationally on the Timmy Horton Outdoors show.
