Tuscumbia – As they say, the frost may be on the pumpkin but that just goes to show 
us that days are growing shorter and that October’s bright weather is just right for a Fall Festival! The Tuscumbia merchants’ organization, Market 35674, has lined up a day of autumn fun on October 27, with something to suit everyone – from the youngest to the oldest of your family!
Arts and crafts vendors are invited to place their wares along Main Street. Street musicians are also invited to 
perform. Call Leslie Keys at Audie Mescal, 256-314-6684 to get your booth registered (small vendor fee) or to claim your street corner to play your music! The festivities begin at 10:00 and continue throughout the day.
More than twenty specialty shops and eateries are located within the 4-block downtown business district. The merchants plan sidewalk sales and specials. Many of the stores plan to stay open late, with “spooktacular” deals and refreshments. With Halloween just around the corner, many families like to find safe environments to celebrate, so bring the little ones in their costumes and stop by the stores for free treats and kid’s games! (Hours vary by store.) Don’t worry about missing the collegiate ballgames. Several shops in town will be showing the games on TV.
Departing from Cold Water Books at 4:00 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m., the annual “History and Haunts” Trolley Tour will take participants on a ride through the town to some of its most haunted sites. Included will be a stop at the Civil War battlefield where the Engagement of Little Bear Creek pitted Union and Confederate forces against each other. Re-enactors with the local Sons of Confederate Veterans (Col William A. Johnson Camp) will provide living history demonstrations on site. The tour will end with a visit to the Tuscumbia Railway Depot for a “revealing” slide show in the newly constructed round house. Local historian John McWilliams known for his “ghostly” encounters will lead the trolley tours. Tickets are $10 for the tour, available in advance at Cold Water Books. Colbert County Historical Landmarks Foundation and Colbert County Tourism sponsor the tour.
