Johnny Albert McDowra – Obituary

Johnny Albert McDowra, of Decatur, passed away on May 24, 2018. His visitation will be on Tuesday, May 29th from noon until 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home followed by service at 2 p.m. Roger Jenkins will officiate.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Camellia Finchum McDowra; son, John Thomas McDowra (Karen McDowra); daughter, Sabra Ann Davis (Danny Davis); grandchildren, Sloan Davis, John R. McDowra, Hayden Davis, Thomas McDowra, Reed McDowra; sister, Margaret Davis (Charles Davis); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John Clark McDowra and Hazel Sellers McDowra.

Johnny was born Sept. 14, 1943 in Decatur, Alabama. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1961, and Athens State University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He was a proud member of the Masonic Rising Sun Lodge #29. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church Decatur. He helped established Helena Chemical Company, and retired from Castner Knott/Dillard’s department store. After retirement, he was a long-time baseball and softball umpire. Johnny and his wife Camellia were married for 55 years.

Pallbearers include John R. McDowra, Hayden Davis, Thomas McDowra, Reed McDowra, Tim Davis, Tom Davis, and Dr. Scott Pitts.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Neighborhood Christian Center in Decatur.
