Harvell Alonzo Hester – Obituary

Harvell Alonzo Hester, age 85, died Monday, May 14th, 2018 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.  He was a native of Lawrence County, TN and husband to Carolyn Hipp Hester, married for 61 years, and living in the Lawrenceburg community.
He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Steve Shedd’s Sunday School Class and Keith Durham’s Church Training Class.  He was a Freemason at the Mimosa Lodge Number 542 and was distinguished as a member for over 50 years. In addition he was a Scottish Rite 32nd degree Mason.
He retired as a Ramp Chief for Northwest Airlines in Nashville, TN after 33 years of service having started his airline career with Southern Airways in 1955.  He became a Regional Manager in Atlanta, GA and served as a Station Manager for both Southern and Republic Airlines in several cities in the South before mergers brought him back to the Middle TN area.  He had been retired from the airline for 30 years and was an avid camper in the Davy Crockett Good Sam’s Camping Club having been a member for 16 years where he also served as Chapter President. He was a member of the Lawrenceburg Crossroads of Dixie Antique Tractor Club and was an enthusiastic outdoorsman, hunting and fishing for most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo Judson Hester and Ida Lena Hammond Hester, as well as 12 brothers and sisters of whom he was the youngest.
He is remembered with love by his wife, Carolyn, of Lawrenceburg TN, one son, Brooks Hester, his wife, Mary, and two grandchildren, Louis Judson Hester and Rachel Naomi Hester, all of Spring Hill, TN. as well as many nieces and nephews.  His friends would say he was always smiling, warm and kind, with wise advice and genuine concern. He was a fine role model to his family and always made himself available to lend a hand to anyone.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 19th, from 11AM – 1PM at Neal Funeral Home at 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, TN  38464. The funeral will follow at 1PM with interment at Gum Springs Cemetery also in Lawrenceburg, TN.
Reverend Michael Duff and Reverend Ken Howard will officiate and notes of condolence may be sent in care of the Hesters at 4014 Randall Lane, Thompson’s Station, TN  37179. Although he never had cancer many of his family and friends did and memorials may be sent in his name to the American Cancer Society.
