FLORENCE-The Florence-Lauderdale Public Library has a host of events set for the end of May and June carrying us into the heart of summer from Books to Movies and Bicentennial Quilts…something for everyone.

Bicentennial Quilt Exhibit
Now through May 27
Florence-Lauderdale Public Library

Come to the 2nd floor of the library to see a special exhibit of 13 quilts celebrating the 200th anniversaries of Florence and Lauderdale County. Members of the Batting Brigade Quilt Guild have created quilts with subjects including local buildings and landmarks, Native American heritage, and more.

The Batting Brigade Quilt Guild is a local group of about 55 members that is open to quilters and anyone interested in quilts. For more information about this exhibit or the Batting Brigade, call Mary Riley at 256-767-0673.

The Beach House
 Film Screening
Thursday, May 31, 6:00 pm
Florence-Lauderdale Public Library

Get ready to meet Mary Alice Monroe with this free screening of The Beach House, the brand new Hallmark movie based on the first book in Monroe’s Beach House series.

When Cara finds her life spinning out of control, she returns to the scenic Lowcountry to visit her mother. Before long, the rhythms of the island open her heart in wonderful ways as she repairs the family beach house, becomes a bona fide “turtle lady,” and renews old acquaintances long lost. The film stars Minka Kelly, Andie MacDowell, Chad Michael Murray, and Makenzie Vega. Special thanks to Hallmark for allowing us to host this screening. For more information, call 256-764-6564, ext. 128.
