Bestselling Author Mary Alice Monroe to Speak at FLPL

FLORENCE – Mary Alice Monroe, the New York Times bestselling author of
The Beach House series of novels, will visit Florence-Lauderdale Public Library on June 5 and 6
for two special events, one ticketed and one free. The ticketed event will be on Tuesday, June 5
at 5:30 pm. The $35 ticket will include a copy of Beach House Reunion as well as hors
d’oeuvres. A free event will take place on June 6 at 11:30 am. Books will be available to
purchase at the free event.
In addition to these author events, the library will be hosting a free screening of the new
Hallmark Hall of Fame film The Beach House , based Mary Alice Monroe’s book of the same
name, on Thursday, May 31, at 6:00 pm. The movie stars Andie MacDowell and Minka Kelly
Mary Alice Monroe is the author of more than a dozen novels, including The Beach House series
and the Lowcountry Summer series. Monroe has received numerous awards for her writing,
including the 2008 South Carolina Center for the Book Award for Writing, the 2014 South
Carolina Award for Literary Excellence, the RT Lifetime Achievement Award, and the
International Book Award for Green Fiction. An active conservationist, she lives in the
lowcountry of South Carolina.
Mary Alice Monroe’s most recent book, Beach House Reunion , finds protagonist Cara Rutledge
returning to her Southern home on the idyllic Isle of Palms. She is joined by her niece Linnea, a
recent college graduate who doesn’t know where her life will take her, and both women fall into
the rhythms of lowcountry life. In this heartwarming novel, three generations of the Rutledge
family gather together to find the strength, love, and commitment to break destructive family
patterns and to forge new bonds that will endure long beyond one summer reunion.
