Marilyn Denise Johnson – Obituary

Marilyn Denise Johnson, 67, of Hartselle, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Huntsville Hospital surrounded by her family. Visitation will start at 1 p.m. Wednesday May 9, 2018, at The Church at Stone River in Decatur, where she was a member. The funeral will immediately follow at 2 p.m. with Reverend Ted Amey officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Marilyn was born October 16, 1950, in Tuscaloosa to Hobert and Mary Jones. She graduated from Tuscaloosa High School with honors in 1968. She attended college at the University of Alabama where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and became an avid football fan for the Tide. Marilyn spent over 30 years teaching and being a devoted U.S. Air Force spouse and mother. When the children grew up she spent her days volunteering with the church, playing bridge and bunco, square dancing with the 8’ers from Decatur, attending Alabama football games, and being an active member of the Red Hat Ladies, United Methodist Women and gardening club. She adored her children and they were her primary source of pride. As her grandchildren arrived, she loved each dearly and they provided much joy and fulfillment to her life. She had a passion for hosting events and holidays at their home and for the church.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bobby Johnson; three daughters, Robyn Clement (Jonathon) of Decatur, Wendy Minicozzi (Michael) of Kathleen, Georgia, and Tracy Holwell (Bryan) of Rome, Georgia; and five grandchildren, Katie Holwell, Caroline Minicozzi, Sydney Holwell, Carson Minicozzi and Cole Clement.
