Bestselling Author Mary Alice Monroe is coming to FLPL on Tuesday, June 5, 5:30 pm ($35 ticket) this includes a copy of Beach House reunion, as well as hors d’oeuvres.
On Wednesday, June 6, 11:30 am there will be a free event and books will be available for purchase at the event.

Bicentennial Quilt Exhibit

Come to the 2nd floor of the library to see a special exhibit of 13 quilts celebrating the 200th anniversaries of Florence and Lauderdale County. Members of the Batting Brigade Quilt Guild have created quilts with subjects including local buildings and landmarks, Native American heritage, and more.
The Batting Brigade Quilt Guild is a local group of about 55 members that is open to quilters and anyone interested in quilts. For more information about this exhibit or the Batting Brigade, call Mary Riley at 256-767-0673.

Hula Hoop Workshop

All ages are invited to this free hula hoop workshop by Beth Anne Reed of BA Hoops and her assistant Taylor Tucker! Beth Anne and Taylor will do a hooping demonstration and lead a hooping class for beginners! Bring your own hoop if you have one, or use one of the practice hoops provided at the event. No special clothing is required, but come prepared to hoop!
Beth Anne Reed is a certified hoop dance instructor through Safire Dance, Inc. She was the winner of Hooping Idol 6.

The free film series The Screening Room: Classics, Crowd-Pleasers, Cult Favorites and Neglected Gems continues its 2018 lineup with Ed Wood (1994).
Because of his eccentric habits and bafflingly strange films, director Ed Wood (Johnny Depp) is a Hollywood outcast. Nevertheless, with the help of the formerly famous Bela Lugosi and a devoted cast and crew of show-business misfits who believe in Ed’s off-kilter vision, the filmmaker is able to bring his oversize dreams to cinematic life. Despite a lack of critical or commercial success, Ed and his friends manage to create an oddly endearing series of extremely low-budget films.
The series — sponsored by the library and Pillar of Fire — is hosted by film historian and Pillar of Fire founder Terry Pace and his wife, Anita.
