Gordon McBride – Obituary

Gordon McBride, 97, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Gordon was born on September 19, 1920 in Hillsboro. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. During the early part of his career, Gordon owned a scrap salvage company. He entered the real estate industry in the 1960’s and developed commercial properties in North Alabama for the next 50 years.

Gordon enjoyed fresh and saltwater fishing and loved ‘frying up’ his catch for family and friends. He was an avid reader. Gordon was a member of Grant Street Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennett Hurst McBride and Anna Lee Martin McBride. He is survived by daughter, Karen McBride Hirons of Tampa, Florida; sons, Gordon Alan McBride of Tampa, Florida and David Glen McBride of Decatur. He had seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Gordon is also survived by his sisters, Evelyn McBride Graham of LaVergne, Tennessee, Bobbie McBride Harville of Cleburne, Texas, and Shirley McBride Laney of Decatur.

A memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2 p.m. on May 8, 2018 at Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to AGAPE of North Alabama.
