Kim Anthony Harris passed on to the Lord, April 26, 2018. He preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte T. Harris; his father, Lester A. Harris; and his brother, Michael W. Harris.
Kim is survived by his sister and guardian, Monica Geis and her husband Glenn Geis; nephew Peter Geis and his wife Alison, and his great nephew Owen; nephew Kevin Geis; step-niece Shannon Geis (Damon Daniels) and great niece Emma Daniels; his sister-in-law, Jennifer Harris, and nephew Chad Harris (Michelle), and niece Shannon Harris; his Honorary mother Helen Geis; and the Honorary family of Willene Savage.
Kim was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, and was a Knight of the Third Degree in the Knights of Columbus, Council 11672, and was an active participant in their meetings. Kim was an integral member of The ARC of Madison County, and enjoyed all the benefits and support of that organization, often participating in helping with The ARC Charity Golf events. Kim worked at Ribbons Unlimited for many years and was considered a master ribbon printer. Kim was supported by the Madison County 310 Board, who guided him through the best quality of life. Kim was a beloved resident of Village Home Care, who provided care, activity, and an independent home life, in which he thrived with a sense of belonging.
Kim was a Special Olympics Athlete, and on the Special Olympics Unified Bowling Team, and later enjoyed being a member of the Apple Pie Gang Bowling League. Kim participated in several Square Dancing Conventions in Florida. He participated in the Kiwanis Club and Action Club. Kim expressed his artistic side in the HappyArts Program at Merrimack Hall.
Kim was a man of many talents: bowling, square dancing, roller skating, ice skating, swimming, horseback riding, fishing, boating, camping, puzzles, games, dancing and music, proms and parties, was an avid singer, and participated in many talent shows. He was a master at bumper pool, and during his ten year residence in Germany, became fluent in the German language. He loved his dog Sasha, who was his loyal companion. He was intricate with numbers and his task of recording scores, weather temperatures, work quotas, and paycheck amounts were very important work to him. Kim was an avid Alabama football fan and was thrilled to attend games in Tuscaloosa and meet players.
Kim was a man who was a joy to all who had the honor to meet him. Mostly he was a man who loved people, and was proud of his accomplishments. The family wishes to thank all those who were a part of his amazing life.
A funeral mass will be held for Kim Harris at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 13550 Chaney Thompson Road, Huntsville, AL 35803, with Father Phil O’Kennedy officiating, on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall to share your memories and joy of Kim. The interment of his remains will be a private family service at a later date.
