Charlie Leon Guntharp, 87, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born December 4, 1930 to the late Marston Guntharp and the late Myrtle Bowen Guntharp in Fulton. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Fulton. He enjoyed deer hunting, working in his wood shop, traveling, fishing, gardening, coin collecting and bird watching. He loved his dog, Dodge and his cat, Troy. He graduated from IAHS in 1950. He worked 17 years for J.E. Staub Hardware. After his retirement from J.E. Staub, he began his career at Dura-Crates and Tombigbee Lumber Company. Later in life he owned and operated Guntharp Carbide Sharpening. He served 8 months in Korea with the 45th Infantry Division. Sfc. Guntharp, an assistant platoon sergeant in Company C of the 180th Infantry Regiment, entered the Army in April 1951 and received basic training at Fort Hood, Texas.
Funeral services, with military honors will be at 3:00 pm on Saturday April 21, 2018 at Senter Funeral Home with Bro. Terry Paul Graham, and Dr. Tim Williams officiating. Burial will be in Harden’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday April 20, 2018 at Senter Funeral Home and from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday April 21, 2018 at Senter Funeral Home.
Senter Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
He is survived by his Daughter, Connie Lesley and son in law, Wayne Lesley of Fulton, Son, Johnny Guntharp and daughter in law, Teressa Guntharp of Fulton, Grandchildren, Josh (Mandy ) Lesley of Smithville, Jeremy Lesley of Fulton, and Tara Lesley of Fulton, Great-grandchildren, Mikah Beth Lesley, and Tinley Grace Lesley, Brothers, Edward (Shirley) Guntharp of Nettleton, Larry (Linda) Guntharp of Fulton, sisters in law, Betty Guntharp of Mooreville, and Lydia McGahey.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Christine Guntharp, his parents, 2 Brothers, James Guntharp, Irvin Guntharp, and sister in law, Jean Walker Guntharp.
Pallbearers will be Josh Lesley, Jeremy Lesley, Mark Guntharp, Jason Guntharp, Patrick Garrison, Robert Lee, Gary Scott, Phillip Horn.
Honorary pallbearers are Charles Grantland, Doice Dulaney, Jason Baker, Walter McMillen, Melvin McMillen, Dr.Kenneth Bishop, Mike Carter.
