COLBERT COUNTY-Representative Johnny Mack Morrow issued a press release concerning and upcoming town hall meeting regarding the  inmate re-entry program at the Four Way Inn.

“On April 2, I called for a public hearing to hear citizens address their concerns about an inmate re-entry program at the Four Way Inn. No one was in attendance who wanted to speak as a proponent of the Four Way Inn project. I heard from several individuals who spoke in opposition. I told everyone at the public hearing that I would do everything in my power to stop this unwanted invasion of “out of county” sex offenders into Colbert County. I also promised to begin work on legislation that would restrict re-entry programs. Law abiding citizens have rights! These citizens, the adults and their children, should be able to carry on normal activities in their neighborhoods without fear of being harmed.

Rep. nny Mack Morrow

The first draft of the legislation, that I promised, will be given to county commissioners and the public at a meeting that I am scheduling for this Monday, April 23 at 6:00 pm. The site of the meeting will be the City of Sheffield courtroom.
This is a first draft that I will present to Commissioners in attendance at this meeting. Here are the steps that we will need to follow in order to amend the Constitution of Alabama:
  1. *Review the first draft and make desired changes that are constitutionally correct. Once these changes have been made the County Commission will give me the bill that they want me to pass in order to regulate inmate re-entry programs in Colbert County.
  2. *I will introduce this local constitutional amendment during the next Special or Regular Session of the Alabama Legislature.
  3. *Voters in Colbert County will then need to approve this local constitutional amendment.”
