Charlie J. “Junior” Welborn – Obituary

Charlie J. “Junior” Welborn, 85 of Moulton, entered into rest on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Welborn was born on December 13, 1932, in Lawrence County. He graduated from Lawrence County High School in 1951. Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), and Good Conduct Medal.

Charlie worked for Clancy Lumber Company and Russell Forest Products. He enjoyed collecting Bear Bryant and Alabama memorabilia.

Visitation will be held tonight, April 17, 2018, from 6 to 8 at Nichols Funeral Home, Double Springs, where services will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at 2 p.m. Rev. Jacob Chandler and Rev. Tim Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill No. 2 Cemetery, Double Springs.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Walker Welborn; stepdaughters, Jacqueline Posey and Debbie (Thomas) Nalley; and brother RayBurn (Janice) Welborn. He was “Paw Paw” to two grandchildren, Celina Stewart and Jason Stewart; six stepgrandchildren, Brandy Washington, Amy Thomas, Adam Chandler, Keith Chandler, Jacob Chandler and Alyssa Posey; one great-grandchild, Marli Lynn Stewart; nine great-stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-great- grandson.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Williams Welborn; mother, Fannie Welborn; father, Charlie Lynch Welborn; daughter, Debbie Welborn Stewart; son-in-law, Lecil Stewart; sisters, Maverine Welborn Corbin and Gussie Dae Welborn Harris; and brother, Dean Welborn.

The family would like to thank the Alacare Hospice employees, Callie, Jewell Ann, Ava, Holly, and others for their excellent care.
