Richard F. Dodd – Obituary

A memorial service for Richard F. Dodd, DDS, 84, will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Hartselle with Reverend Clayton Speed officiating. There will be a time of visitation following the service in the fellowship hall. A burial ceremony was held in Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.

He was born May 3, 1933, in Mason County, Michigan, to Guy L. Dodd and Genevieve Skowronski. Mr. Dodd passed into eternal life on Monday April 2, 2018. He was born in Ludington, Michigan. He served his country as a Captain in the United States Air Force. After graduating from the University of Michigan Dental School, Dr. Dodd practiced dentistry in Kent County, Michigan. After his retirement from his practice, Dr. Dodd established a sheep farm in Sand Lake, Michigan before moving to Kalamazoo, Michigan and finally to Hartselle, Alabama. Richard served his Lord as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and choir member at Cedar Springs First Baptist, Algoma Baptist, First United Baptist, and First Baptist Church of Hartselle.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca J. Dodd; two daughters, Amelia Dodd Denslow, Hartselle and Julea Dodd Moats (Kevin), Decatur; one brother, Larry Dodd (Donna), Traverse City, Michigan; and two grandchildren, Steven D. Denslow, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Victoria Denslow, Birmingham.

Dr. Dodd requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to “Answers in Genesis” or Hospice of the Valley.
