ATHENS-On Wednesday, April 11 Athens Mayor’s Youth Commissioners learned about being a police officer and firefighter. Athens Police allowed students to use the gun simulator that runs scenarios officers face and requires users to issue verbal commands and determine whether to use their weapon. Athens Fire demonstrated response to a fire with a victim trapped inside, and allowed students to use the hose to feel how much water pressure is utilized, requiring physical strength to operate it properly.

The Athens Mayor’s Youth Commission went to Leak City, a training facility in Athens, to learn about first response. Part of the program included watching firefighters respond to a fire with a “victim” inside, and students getting to use the hose to see how hard it can be to control because of the water pressue.

Athens Police taught Youth Commissioners about training with the gun simulator, which requires verbal commands.
Athens Fire and Rescue taught about responding to a fire with a victim inside.
