Danny Lee Wiginton – Obituary

Danny Lee Wiginton passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday morning.

Danny was born in Baldwyn, Mississippi. He was raised in Golden, Mississippi and graduated from Belmont High School in 1964. Danny graduated from Mississippi State University in 1968 with a Bachelor’s of Science and Accounting.

Danny moved to Huntsville after graduation to begin his career. Danny was a partner at Johnston, Joyce & Wiginton, a CPA firm in Huntsville. He also was a real estate developer and later became the owner of SOUTHBank, serving as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. In his personal life, Danny loved to travel, especially to the Round Hill Hotel & Villas in Jamaica, where he was a homeowner and also served on the Board of Directors. Danny also enjoyed horse racing, as well as collecting American art and antiques. He took pride in restoring two historic homes, as well as serving on the City of Huntsville Historic Preservation Commission.

Danny Wiginton was preceded in death by his father, Elton Leroy Wiginton. Danny is survived by his mother, Alene Strickland Wiginton of Golden, MS; his brother, David Wiginton (Barbara) of Muscle Shoals; his two children, Christopher Lee Wiginton (Joy) and Lee Evelyn Ray (Austin) of Huntsville; and four grandchildren, Christopher Lee Wiginton, Jr., Emily Ann Wiginton, Frances Elisabeth Wiginton and Vivian Jane Wiginton. He is also survived by Tommy Smith, beloved friend and caregiver.

The family would like to thank Hospice Family Care, for their endless support and impeccable care, especially Danny’s nurse, Michelle Kinsella. They would also like to thank all of the kind caregivers from Right At Home.

Services will be held at Golden Chapel United Methodist Church, in Golden, Mississippi, on Sunday, April 15 at 2 PM with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Randolph School, Huntsville Museum of Art or Golden Chapel United Methodist Church.
