Dorothy F. “Dot” Sartain, 90, died Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at her residence. She was born August 18, 1927 in Mississippi and was known as “Aunt Dot” to everyone. She was a member of Liberty Church of Christ and a supporter and houseparent at Sunnybrook Children’s Home in Dennis and Jackson, MS. She worked at Dorcas Workshop for many years providing needy families with necessities. Her purpose all day and every day was to help others unselfishly. She was a ceramics instructor, a member of Dennis Homemakers Club, enjoyed sewing, quilting and making stuffed rabbits, reading, attending church services and listening to gospel and country music. She liked to watch football and work in her garden and flowers. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her delicious pimento cheese and fried apple pies.

Services will be Friday, April 13, 4 p.m. at Liberty Church of Christ, Dennis, MS with David Conley and Ron Deaton officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery, Dennis, MS. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by two sons – James Estes Sartain (Brenda) and Stephen Sartain (Deb); grandchildren – Karen Timbs, Amee Scott (Thomas), Nikki Tacker (John Michael), Mackenzie Sartain, Chad Sartain, Cody Sartain (Nicole), Joe Vandersnick (Amber) and Josh Vandersnick (Christine); great-grandchildren – Dillon Oswalt (Lacey), Justin Timbs (Kaila), Anna Timbs, Shelby Scott Smith (Mark), Nathan Scott, Ridge Tacker, Lincoln Tacker, Aaron Sartain, Bentleigh Sartain, Gunnar Sartain, Baylor Sartain, Shelby Vandersnick, Tessie Vandersnick, Archer Vandersnick and Violet Vandersnick; great-great-grandchildren – Tyler Gasaway, Riley Oswalt, Ava Oswalt, Hadley Oswalt, Conner Smith and Harper Scott and special extended family– Larry Sartain, Dennis, MS and Bobbie Pannell Branum, Hendersonville, TN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Sartain, a daughter, Sherry Oswalt, a grandson, Keith Oswalt; two brothers, James Pounds and Dean Pounds and a sister, Lydia Kemp.

Pallbearers will be Kerry Moody, Robert Hester, Kerry Deaton, Jerry Moore, Andy Deaton and Jerry Lindsey. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmie Goza, Danny Goza, Danny Smith and elders of Liberty Church of Christ.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.

The family wishes to thank Kindred Hospice, Deborah Harrison at WR Community Services and special friend, Ann Goza.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 12, 6-9 p.m. at Liberty Church of Christ, Dennis, MS.

Her memory will never fade.
