FLORENCE-The Tennessee Valley Historical Society will host a trolley tour Saturday, April 14 at 11:00 a.m. This one-hour trolley tour will visit Florence sites significant to the story of the history of Florence and Lauderdale County during the Civil War.
This trolley tour will send you back into history where you can learn about Monumental Park, a park designed to honor the fallen heroes of the “Lost Cause,” and Mapleton, a residence built by George Coalter, that was used as a camping site for soldiers. The soldiers concealed their horses in the basement there.
Though there were no major battles fought in the Shoals area, skirmishes were fought throughout both Lauderdale and what is now Colbert County. Hop on this trolley tour to also discuss how Florence-Lauderdale rebuilt after the Civil War!
The tour departs from the Florence/Lauderdale Tourism Visitor Center at 200 Jim Spain Drive in McFarland Park at 11:00 a.m. Admission is $10.00, children riding in an adults lap ride free. All proceeds go to the UNA History Scholarship Fund. Reservations are recommended as seating is limited.
