Eva E. Barnes – Obituary

Eva E. Barnes, 95, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Magnolia Manor in Tupelo.  She was born Halltown Community in Franklin County, AL, the first of seven children of Samuel and Mary Elizabeth Crumby Elrod.  She married Quinn O’Neal Barnes on July 4, 1941.  She was a homemaker in her early years and then became manager of Arctic Cleaners in Kenosha, WI where she retired in 1982.  She then moved back to Belmont where she began hosting a supper club with her guests complimenting her elegant table settings and desserts.  She was a lady of grace of charm with the ability to make others feel warm in her presence.  Mrs. Barnes was an avid gardener enjoying raising all varieties of vegetables and plants.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Belmont, MS.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 7, 11:30 a.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, AL with Bro. Jack Maroon and Bro. Ray Burks officiating.  Burial will be in Halltown Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by two daughters-Betty Shane of Tupelo and Amelia Kay Nutter (Raymond) of Kenosha, WI; one grandson-Jeffery Nutter of WI; three sisters-in-law-Jean Elrod, Dorothy Elrod and Ivy Elrod; a host of nieces and nephews and her devoted caregiver-Ms. Johnnie Lewis.

She was preceded in death by her husband-Quinn O’Neal Barnes; her parents; infant son-Jerry O’Neal Barnes; grandson-Jonathan Nutter; three brothers-Melvin Elrod, Robert “Tom” Elrod and William Carlos Elrod; three sisters-Earlene E. Moore, Lorene Ledbetter and Sammie Nelson and a son-in-law-Leonard “Len” Shane.

Pallbearers will be Noonan Barnes, Mark Maroon, John Mark Maroon, Barry Woodcock, Dwayne Palmer and James Walker.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 7, 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 855 Belmont, MS or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
