Genevieve “Gen” Lindstrom Johnson, 80, of Iuka, MS, died Saturday, March 31, 2018, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo after a courageous 15-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was a very vocal advocate of homeopathic treatments for cancer, which she used solely for 11 years successfully, at which point the cancer returned and metastised leading her being forced into conventional chemotherapy and radiation treatments, including gamma knife radiation to the brain. She fought gallantly for 3 years through these brutal treatments. Dr. Mark Reed supported Gen through all her treatment options, and often referred to her as a miracle. Genevieve was born January 3, 1938 to Ralph Sr. and Margaret Rothwell Lindstrom, and raised in Eureka, California. She was married to Allen Johnson for over 40 years. She was a strong and talented woman. Her many accomplishments include being one of the very first women contractors in the State of California. She was an accountant for Aerojet. She was a co-founder of ACRE (Agricultural Commercial Real Estate) and she was on the Sacramento Board of Realtors for many years. She also started a business called Copy Van which went to local businesses and copied any documents on the spot. She was ahead of her time. She was also involved in the Good Ship Hope program helping those in need around the world. Later in life Gen and Allen moved to Iuka, MS and bought a home near the water, which she always loved. She and the entire family were adopted by a wonderful group of people in Iuka. The Bivins’ and all of their family, as well as others in the community, welcomed and thought of the Johnson family as one of their own. But her heart was always in her birthplace of Eureka, CA, and her favorite place in the world was the jetty there. When asked many years ago how she would like to be remembered, she said simply, “I would like to be remembered as a woman of substance.” She is survived by her loving children; her son, Brent Johnson of Boston, MA and her daughter, Terri Johnson of Okemah, OK; her granddaughter, Tyler Nicole Sadeghipour of Sacramento, CA; and her very special friend and adopted daughter, Darlene Enlow.
