SHEFFIELD-The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency issued an update on the hit-and-run accident that occurred on Saturday, March 17:

“On 3/17/2018 at approximately 11:30 PM David Lee Borden of Cherokee, AL.  contacted the Alabama State Troopers and stated he was driving the vehicle that struck and killed Jimmy Oneal Waldrep on AL. 157 earlier that evening.

Borden told Alabama State Trooper James Howard that he didn’t see Waldrep until the last second because he was wearing dark-colored clothes and was unable to avoid hitting him. He further stated that he turned around and returned to where Waldrep was laying but when he saw several people already gathering he panicked and left. After talking with family members Borden called the State Troopers to report his involvement in the crash.

After consulting with the Colbert County District Attorney’s Office it has been decided this case will be submitted to the next available grand jury for their consideration.”
