Graveside service for Earl D. Benfield, age 84, of Decatur, AL, will be Tuesday, March 20, 2018, 3:00 p.m. at East Lawrence Memorial Gardens with Rev. Dr. Rob Jackson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. til 2:30 p.m. at the Shelton Funeral home.
Earl D. Benfield, who passed away Friday, March 16, 2018, at NHC in Moulton, AL, was born October 16, 1933 to the late Earl L. Benfield Sr. and Lena Mae (Stephenson) Benfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill Benfield of Hattiesburg, MS. He is survived by his wife, Frances Lee Benfield of Decatur, AL; two sons, Mike Benfield (Lisa) of Key West, FL and Jim Benfield of Ocean Springs, MS; two brothers, James Benfield of Huntsville and Donnie Benfield of Memphis, TN; three step children, Donna Maner (Mike) of Rogersville, AL, David Free of Decatur, AL, and Doug Free (Carrie) of Decatur, AL; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Benfield retired from Ingalls shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Special Forces for 32 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley at P.O. Box 2745, Decatur, AL 35602.
