Larry Lynn Briggs Jr. passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus at 3:40pm, Monday, March 12, 2018 at his home in Michie, TN. with his family by his side. Larry was born in Memphis, TN. on April 24, 1970.
He survived by his mother, Becky Statham, and step father, Richard Statham of Michie, TN.; father, Larry Briggs Sr., and step mother, Ruthann Briggs of Michie, TN.; maternal grandmother, Verdie Durbin, of Michie, TN.; two sisters, Kim Ridley and husband Steve of Memphis, TN., and Amanda Mangum and husband Joe Mike Mangum of Bulverde, TX.; one brother, Ryan Briggs and wife, Katie of Michie, TN.; four nieces Rebecca Scott, Shilo and Stella Briggs, and Abigayle Mangum; four nephews Bobby and Ben Scott, Shelby Briggs, and Michael Joe Mangum; and several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Larry’s maternal grandfather Earnest Durbin, and paternal grandparents E S (Shirley) and Annie Briggs proceed him in death.
Larry was a very special person, and filled the hearts of every one who knew him. Larry was nine years old when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He endured more than most could only image. Though his condition characterized him as special needs, a better fitting description is: “uniquely special”.
Larry taught people around him the more important life lessons, more than anyone could ever teach him: kindness, love, and gentleness. He embodied a pure heart.
Things Larry truly enjoyed were simple. He liked going out to raise and lower the flag at his house, he liked to play games, he like to do word searches, and type words from books and newspapers onto his computer, gathering the mail daily, and watching baseball and basketball games.
Christmas time was always fun because Larry was always a true believer in Santa Clause. He always waited for his letter from Santa. Larry’s stepfather who loved and took care of him as if he was his own child played the role of Santa well.
Larry was such a precious soul who will be greatly missed. Although Larry is not physically here with us, he will always remain in our hearts. Heaven has gained an angel.
