Ann Taylor Smith – Obituary

Ann Taylor Smith passed away on Monday, March 12. Ann was born on March 14, 1931, to Wallace and Hazel Jordan Taylor in Haleyville, Ala. After graduating from Haleyville High School, she attended the Alabama School for Women (now University of Montevallo). After marriage, she transferred to Auburn University, earning a degree in home economics education.She later earned her master’s degree in teaching from Athens College.

Ann married her childhood sweetheart, Bobby Cain Smith, on Dec. 20, 1951.

Ann nurtured thousands of children in her 30-year teaching career. She retired as a third-grade teacher at Crestline Elementary School in 1992.

Ann and Bob were longtime members of the Hartselle Church of Christ, where she taught children’s Bible classes for many years.  She enjoyed cooking,reading, gardening and shopping trips with her grandchildren and friends.She and Bob loved to travel, visiting Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.She was a loving Granny to her four granddaughters, who adored her in return.

Annwas preceded in death by her husband, Bob, and is survived by sons B.C. (Lydia) Smith, Hartselle, and Paul (Vicki) Smith, Brentwood, Tenn; and granddaughters Allison Smith, Hartselle; Della (Derick) Hill, Grass Valley, Calif.; Claire Smith, Nashville; and Taylor (Alex) Clarke, Largo, Fla.

A celebration of Ann’s life will be at Hartselle Church of Christ at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hartselle Church Mission Fund.
