Martha Elizabeth Cole – Obituary

Martha Elizabeth Cole, age 95, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Decatur County General Hospital in Parsons, Tennessee.

Martha was born on November 12, 1922 in Memphis, Tennessee to Silas G. and Yecedrah Floyd Gargling. She was married to John Melvin Cole and they had two children together. She was a nurse, having worked for the Methodist Health System and St. Francis Hospital in Memphis; she loved taking care of people, especially her patients. She was of the Baptist faith. Quick witted, she was a woman who loved life and embraced all that it had to offer. One of her favorite past-times was horse-riding, and she was a member of the Briarwood Saddle Club in Memphis. Reading and playing cards were also activities she enjoyed, along with playing the organ. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Woodlawn Chapter for over fifty years.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her children: Darlene (Tim) Pittman of Bath Springs, Tennessee and CeeAnn (David) Corn of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren: Jon (Shelley) Pittman of Memphis, Tennessee, Tim (Liliana) Pittman of San Diego, California, John (Tammie) Corn of Phoenix, Arizona and Liz (David) Mehnert of Phoenix, Arizona; and 4 great-grandchildren: CeCe Corn, Ben Corn, David Mehnert, III and Bryce Cole Pittman.

Family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m., with services to follow on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Ellendale Baptist Church, 3861 Broadway Rd, Bartlett, TN 38135. Burial will follow at Memphis Memorial Park.
