FLORENCE-The Florence Police Department released a statement on Wednesday, March 7 concerning scams involving the Police Departments in the area.  Florence PD in this statement informs the public on what to expect if you receive a call from Florence PD:

“The Florence Police Department  would like to let you know that Florence Police Department does not and will not call your readers, listeners, or watchers to have them make a payment over the phone for any fines or to keep them from going to jail. If you do receive a call from one of our numbers please ask the caller his/her name before answer any question. Some of the reason we may call you are; to speak to you about an incident you reported, to speak  to you concerning a complaint or compliment you reported, to advise you that you have a warrant for your arrest, and to ask you about an interaction you had with one of our officers. There are other reason but it will never be to “pay us money or you are going to jail”. They can also go to our website, listed below, and click on contact directory and view a  list of our numbers with the name of the officer or employee.

Here are some things that we offer online; you can receive an accident report, the website is crashdocs.org. This website is powered by Carfax so you will see their logo on this site. You can download  an application for our Citizens Police Academy and you can file a complaint, compliment, or commendation by going to our website at http://www.florenceal.org/Public_Safety/Police/index.html our site also has a link to the accident report website.”
