Guy Clarence Howard, Jr. of Goodspring passed away on March 5, 2018 at St. Thomas Midtown. He was born in Hampton, VA on July 26, 1933 and was 84 years old.
He spent the first 13 years of life attending schools in VA, NY, Conn, Mass, IL, MO, NC and back to VA, in 1946. In 1950, following his father Guy Sr. a career air force officer, he enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. He spent three years with the 11th Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY. He returned to VA and finished school. He then married Thelma Quesenberry in 1956 and had two daughters, Debra and Barbara. Before reenlisting in the US Army, two more daughters were born, Pamela and Sandra. During his military career he spent tours of duty with the 82nd Airborne, 101st Airborne, and the US Army Special Forces (Green Berets). He retired in January 1978 with 21 years active and seven years inactive reserve. After retirement, he was employed as a federal police officer for NASA Langley Research Center, US Navy and Veterans Admin in Hampton, VA. In 1989 he retired again sold his house, bought an RV and returned to his beloved Stella, TN. He and his wife spent the winters in FL and summers in TN until 2006. His wife passed away in February 2006 after 49 years, 7 months, 1 week, 2 days, and 32 minutes of marriage. Following her death, he then returned to Goodspring, TN to live the rest of his life with his youngest daughter Sandra. He stated, “I had a good life and will miss everybody, till we meet again”.
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 8th from 11:00am until 12:00pm with a funeral service following at 12:00pm in the chapel of Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home.
Burial will take place in the Stella cemetery with full military honors.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Quesenberry Howard, parents, Guy C. and Martha M. Reep Howard, Sr., brother, Gerald Howard, cousins, Clay Donald Howard and Morris Howard

Sister, Anne Bentley and the late Terry Bentley of Jonesboro, GA
Sister, Kathy Savadra of Hampton, VA
