Beryl Lorene Fairlamb, neé Giebner, of Cookeville, TN, passed away peacefully in the presence of family on 3 March in Huntsville, AL, 9 days short of her 90th birthday. Beryl was born in Polk, PA, on March 12, 1928, to Ethel Alfreda Giebner and Herman H. Giebner.  She eloped with and married the only man she ever loved, John C. Fairlamb, in June 1946, after his return from the Pacific Theater of WW II.  Beryl and John had two children, John R. and Nicole D., to whom she was a model mother.  After a brief period of civilian life, Beryl’s husband was offered an opportunity in 1950, to return to active duty in the Army which they eagerly accepted.  After 13 months on the line during the first year of the Korean War, she followed her soldier husband to numerous assignments in Ohio, Arkansas, Georgia, North Carolina, Kansas, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Tennessee, as well as two tours in Germany, a year in France, and a nervous year in Florida while he served in Vietnam, their third war.  Beryl was the very model of the Army wife.  No matter where they served or under what circumstances, she made a stylish and comfortable home out of what many would consider frequently rudimentary “government quarters.”  She exemplified the phrase “Bloom where you are planted.” When her husband retired after 34 years of military service, she readily settled down in Cookeville, Tennessee and made it their “home town” for 45 years.  She was very active in the Tennessee Technological University (TTU) Garden Club and the TTU President’s Club. She and John were “Friends of the TTU Library” helping to raise money for a new library building which their granddaughter made use of when she got her Master’s Degree.  An accomplished “stitcher,” she gained statewide recognition for some of her work.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, COL (USA, Retired) John R. and Lynette Fairlamb of Huntsville, AL; daughter and son-in-law, Nicole D. and Andrew de Naray of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Ashton Fairlamb, Andrew (Samantha) de Naray, and John C. (Deilyn) Fairlamb II; great-grandson, Archer de Naray; sister-in-law, Kay(Fairlamb) Bailey of Chapel Hill, NC; numerous nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Giebner.
No local services are planned.  Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery where she will join her beloved husband of 69 years.
