ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement concerning the arrest of a suspect who allegedly is responsible for a series of robberies of vehicles:

“On Wednesday morning, February 28 shortly before 9:00 AM Investigators Mikey Hart and Jonathan Caldwell went to a residence in the 100 block of Scotland drive looking for a suspect involved in a theft. While they were there they ran the tag on a vehicle in the drive way. The vehicle had been stolen from Decatur. Investigators were unable to get anyone to come to the door of the residence. While on the scene the investigators saw the suspect in the residence. The investigators called for assistance and surrounded the residence. Over the next several hours we called in our HEAT team (high risk entry and arrest team) and negotiators. We were extremely concerned about the suspect being armed due to him posting on a social media site last night a picture of 2 pistols. Over the next several hours we used our robot and thermal imaging unit from the fire department to attempt a peaceful resolution to the standoff. We were able to work with family and friends that were calling and texting the suspect in attempts to have him come out without incident. We even had a family member try to talk with him person to person.  Finally after 3:00 this afternoon Captain Trevor Harris saw the suspect stick his head out of a window. He was able to engage the suspect till other officers could take him into custody. There was a brief struggle in the residence when the arrest was made. No one was injured in the arrest.

Jaylon Edward Jordan 18 was charged with Theft of property 1st degree. Other charges will be added later this evening or tomorrow. Jordan is currently being interviewed by investigators. After the interview Jordan will be booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail. At this time I don’t have a photo of Jordan. “

“Following up from last night, Jaylin Jordan has been charged with 3 counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle. The charges are related to the 3 vehicles that were broken into on February 21, 2018 at the Limestone County Tech School on Sanderfer Road. Yesterday he was charged with theft of property first degree for taking a 1992 GMC pickup truck on February 24, 2018. He was also charged with resisting arrest. The investigation into Jordan is continuing and more charges are possible.’
