Pamala Kay Thomas Blankenship

Pamala was born in Cullman County to W.O. and Rachel Thomas. She was the third of six children. She grew up on a farm and was raised with a strong work ethic, family love and love of God. Pam attended Logan Grade School and graduated from West Point High School in Cullman County. She completed Calhoun Technical Secretarial School and later completed a business degree from Athens State College. She was a Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) and was State President of the National Secretary Association. Pam was a cheerleader. She was active in various clubs and athletic programs.

Pam met and married her husband, Ronald “Ron” Blankenship in Athens while visiting friends. They made their home in Priceville and have been married 49 years. They enjoyed traveling, snow skiing, visiting friends and family and having fun.

Pam worked at Prestolite Company as assistant to the Plant Manager for approximately 20 years. She was always involved in community activities. She was active on a tennis league and enjoyed tennis with Ron.

Pam is survived by her husband, Ron; sisters, Jamie Boyle (Frank), Connie Wilhite (Darrell); brother-in-law, Bob Crick; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. She is preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Susan Mary Crick and Peggy Jean Brock. Through many years she has had a special group of friends who have visited her, loved on her, and prayed with and for her, including Debra Gooch, Carol Gragg, Kay Owens, Maye Day and Linda Russell.

During later years, Pam fought a difficult battle with MS. Though her body was weakened, her mind and spirit were strong. She continually reached out to others and offered much love and support to all around her. She was involved in numerous MS walks. She will always be remembered for her love of others and positive attitude. She loved life and hung on to that golden thread with all that she had. She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 and funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Frank Boyle, Dwight Gooch, Greg Blankenship, Bill Fisher and Josh Brooks. Reverend Roger Jenkins, First Baptist Church, Decatur will officiate.

Donations in her memory may be made to the MS Society, 813 Shades Creek Parkway, Birmingham AL, 35209.
