Betty Jane Searcy Hayes, 92 of Cullman, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Woodland Village Health Care surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Hayes was born in New Port, Kentucky on January 28, 1926, and spent most of her life in Addison, Alabama. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of Addison Church of God. Mrs. Hayes was always a hardworking, independent individual who enjoyed gardening and cooking. She loved sports, playing softball until she was in her 50’s, watching Alabama football and Braves Baseball, and was such an avid supporter of Addison football that she once won the Fan of the Year award. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Elberta Searcy; parents, Leo and Ester Searcy; brother, Everett (Bud) Searcy; sisters, Korean Searcy, Vera Warren, Vondell Speegle, Christeen Hays, Billie Smothers, Juanita Bordon and Frances Parker, and grandson, Mike McCain.
She is survived by her brothers, James and Robert Searcy; children, Jannie McCain (Michael) of Huntsville, AL, Roger Hayes (Kathy) of Haleyville, AL, and Byron Hayes (Kay) of Cullman, AL; grandchildren, Donna McCain, Cyndi Lindley, Shea Ellis, Tandy Hayes, Trevor Hayes, and Jennifer Grimmett; nine great-grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren.
The family extends a heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Woodland Village Health Center and the nurses with Comfort Care Hospice for their kind, gentle care.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 25, 2018, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM, with funeral service held on Monday, February 26 at 11:00 AM, both will be conducted at Nichols Funeral Home in Addison, Alabama. Interment to follow in Cullman City Cemetery.
