Jean “Jeannie” Davis Braly was born to Hardy and Flora Davis in Decatur on December 13, 1929 and left this earth surrounded by her family on February 23, 2018. She grew up in Decatur and graduated from Riverside High School. After high school she caught the eye of a young farmer from Limestone County. She and George Braly were married and began their life together in Tanner. In the years to come, this marriage was blessed with two loving daughters.

Jeannie used her talents of finance and administration while working at Dixie Home Feeds and later at Valley Stockyard. She was also appointed to the Board of Registrars for Limestone County.

Jeannie loved to travel as evidenced by her carrying her teenage daughters on a month-long trip to Europe, by herself, while traveling in a VW camper. In addition the family was active in the Arrowhead Camping Club, camping all over the southeast. Jeannie loved reading, cooking, playing bridge, and working in her yard and was a member of the Athens Garden Club.

In later years she was a volunteer for Limestone Hospice, a volunteer for the Red Cross, and was involved in a program to teach others to read.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, George Braly; two daughters, Celia Marie Williamson (Buster) and Melanie Carol Carter (Steve); and was “Manaw” to seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday, February 26th from noon to 1:45 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will follow at Athens City Cemetery. Officiating: Mike Green and Stephen Fincher.
